Why This Comparison Matters (and Why I’m the One Doing It)

Deye’s technical specs clearly define earthing conductor sizing per NEC 690.64. Their manual even includes a table for wire gauge based on distance. Separate components from different manufacturers? Third-party charge controllers for lithium batteries often require add-on monitoring modules ($200+). Verdict: Deye’s integrated safety and monitoring provide peace of mind that separate systems can’t match without extra cost. But — and here’s the honest limitation — if you already own a high-quality BMS and monitoring platform, the Deye bundle loses some of its edge.

Dimension 4: Flexibility & Future Expansion

This is where I almost went the other way. I went back and forth for two weeks. Deye ties you into their ecosystem. Want a different battery brand later? Probably not compatible. Their EV charger uses proprietary communication protocol. If you value flexibility — say you might add solar panels from a third party or upgrade to a different battery chemistry — Deye is not the best choice.

But for 80% of our projects (5kW residential, standard home, no exotic future plans), the “lock-in” never matters. Clients want one app, one warranty, one support number. I’ve seen the fragility of mixing brands: when one component fails, vendors point fingers. Deye’s single-point-of-accountability is worth something.

Verdict: Avoid Deye if you’re building a custom, experimental system. Embrace it if you want plug-and-play with a solid floor plan.

So Which One Should You Choose?

If you’re a B-side system integrator installing 5kW-ish residential systems with standard loads, Deye’s 5kW hybrid inverter bundle wins on TCO — especially when you factor in installation reliability and safety certifications. I’ve made that mistake of chasing the cheapest quote and it cost me. I don’t plan to repeat it.

But if your project requires a unique configuration — say, a 48V DC coupling with legacy batteries, or you’re building a microgrid with exotic inverters — then building components separately gives you the flexibility you need. Deye themselves would agree: they don’t claim to fit every edge case.
